Green Layoffs

From the Suzuki Foundation website (emphasis mine):

Green-collar jobs are good jobs. An overwhelming proportion of green stimulus spending involves relatively skilled jobs that are not subject to the boom and bust cyclical pattern of resource sector jobs.

Oops

The David Suzuki Foundation also had to lay off staff, for the first time in its 19-year history.

“We’re a well-known and successful and very carefully managed organization,” human resources director Marie-Claire Seebohm said from the foundation’s Vancouver headquarters. “So for us to be in this situation is, I think, an indication of how severe the crisis is for non-profit organizations generally.”

The weekly round up is in progress, and yes, I am up this early.

We will all have the honor – before too long – of hiring former Guantanamo detainees. As some liberal US courts will almost certainly release some of these guys, they will be left to compete for work with the rest of us.

Well, I honestly don’t think a lot of jobs are recession proof, including the “green-collar” ones. Just gotta prepare for the worst, no matter what, I guess.
