Behaving badly

Sir John Hirst, the UK’s Met Office chief, says he’s received death threats from climate skeptics.  Fortunately they were not serious:

A Met Office spokesman confirmed Mr Hirst had received death threats made in a number of ”unsavoury emails”, but said they were ”isolated incidents” and the organisation had not felt it necessary to involve the police.

Threatening a person’s life over a scientific or ideological difference of opinion is unacceptable.  In this case it sounds like the work of a few deranged individuals with unsupervised email time and and an unhealthy interest in the Midsomer Murders.

For real threats to life, liberty and the pursuit of hippies, no-one does it better than Big Green.  Here’s a reminder of the top ten intolerant moments from your friendly neighborhood treehugger:

Heidi Cullen, of The Weather Channel ‘is advocating that the American Meteorological Society (AMS) revoke their “Seal of Approval” for any television weatherman who expresses skepticism that human activity is creating a climate catastrophe.’

Talking Points Memo pondered the question ‘at what point do we jail or execute global warming deniers?’

Death threats were made against Tim Ball and others.

The United Nations kicked skeptic scientists out of press conferences.

Professor Stephen Schneider, an IPCC member, called armed security to have a skeptic removed from his presence.

CBS’s Scott Pelley compared skeptics to holocaust deniers.

Greenpeace uttered a threat to skeptics, ‘we know where you live’

David Suzuki called for politicians who questioned global warming science to be jailed.

Joe Romm wanted to strangle skeptics in their beds.

NASA’s James Hansen suggested skeptics be tried for high crimes against humanity.

For some reason the press gives a pass to threats issued by famous warmists or organizations, yet jump up and down in excitement when a lone-gun-bitter-clinger-tea-partying-emailer issues the same threat.  Whoever the ‘skeptics’ behind the threats are, we condemn their deranged views and thank Gaia they’re not a warmist with guns.
