The blue areas represent “ice eras” … there have been seven since life evolved on earth, five within the past 600 million years.
Within ice eras are shorter duration climate variations (ranging from hundreds of thousands to a few million years), the cool variations are “ice epochs”.
The orbital influence (Milankovitch cycles) is seen in relatively short climate variations on the tens of thousands of years time scale, these are reflected by the ice age/interglacial cycles.
The chart shows hundreds of millions of years. Ice age cycles are not discernible at that scale.
Earth’s typical climate over the past 2.5 billion years (of its 4.8 billion year existence) is at the higher temperatures shown on the chart. At such temperatures, there is no permanent ice anywhere on the planet except at the tops of the highest mountains. No year round polar ice. Sea levels are considerably higher than anything man has ever experienced. Yet life has flourished throughout these climate extremes, with the greatest expansion of life occurring during the warmer climate periods.
The “global warming” scare of the past 30 or so years worries about a trivial increase in temperature that is far more beneficial than a chilling ice age cycle. And we know the ice age will cycle will return as this interglacial ends. Not to alarm anyone, but it is unlikely that this interglacial (the Holocene) will last much longer and a rapid return to very cold ice age conditions are far more a threat than “global warming” based on unproven, dubious theories (the greenhouse effect, and anthropogenic global warming).
Schools and universities are propagandizing climate today at great cost to tomorrows “educated” leaders.

Interesting chart. However I was hoping your chart would show daily temperatures rather than just the aggregated averages.
Just stop. June's temperatures were NOT a sign of global warming | Western Free Press:
