Mother Nature Network blogger Shea Gunther talks some sense to those radical greens that love to make wild claims about global distasters that simply don’t exist.
Gunther is a hippie, but give him credit for trying to contain the lunatics that would ban mining ‘because it causes earthquakes’:
Chris Baskind, a noted green blogger and newest edition to the MNN team, found what he called “hysterical, opportunistic, overly broad nonsense” over at Change.org in a petition calling for the phasing out of all mining activity because of concerns that they cause earthquakes. It’s one of those pieces that’s so badly put together that you feel bad for the writer- you know that chill of embarrassment that you get for someone else..
Post-climategate, some greens realize how damaging alarmist and unsubstantiated claims have been to the public’s perception of the environmental movement. People have grown tired of being told that living their daily lives is killing this or that species, especially when the claims are clearly bunk.
Global warming is still a hoax problem, but if people like Gunther can reduce the amount of wild exaggeration, that’s a step in the right direction.
