McCain-Palin

Some thoughts on John McCain’s bold pick for VP, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

mcpalin2McCain took the wind out of the Dems triumphalist sails after the big Obama speech last night, completely stealing the news cycle this morning.

Despite what Democrats might wish, they cannot attack Palin’s lack of experience without drawing comparisons to Obama’s own paper-thin resume:

  • Palin has been a successful Governor for 2 years, while Obama has been a junior Senator for a little over 3 years.
  • She has cleaned up politics in Juneau and has approval ratings in the high 80%’s, Obama has little to show for his time in the US Senate.
  • She has no foreign policy experience, neither does Obama.
  • She has actual executive experience as mayor and Governor, neither Obama or Biden has any.
  • She’s a Washington outsider, Obama and Biden are both beltway insiders.
  • Obama’s greatest achievement is a slum in Chicago, Palin’s is a $5 billion savings in Alaska’s budget

All these points likely will play in the future, but the one thing that is certain is that the Democrats will lose a lot of women voters.  Not because Palin replaces Hillary in some simple ‘vote for a woman, any woman’ way, but because the misogyny of the left’s reaction to Palin will reveal its ugly face and drive the female vote away.

Already on CNN this morning, John Roberts asked reporter Dana Bash if it was appropriate for Palin to accept the nomination when she has a 5 month-old Down’s Syndrome baby at home.  Imagine if Fox news had said that?

UPDATE:  Obama’s campaign skips any congratulation on her nomination and smears small town America in it’s first attack on Sarah Palin.  Way to stay classy, Dems.

UPDATE #2: Some rumblings about an ethics investigation in Alaska.  I know nothing about it, but again, how can the Obama campaign pursue this with Rezko and Ayers in their candidate’s past?  Biden’s not exactly clean either.  If she is cleared of wrongdoing, the Dems have opened a door they might have preferred remained closed.  I have to believe that McCain’s people are satisfied there’s nothing to the charge for her to get the nomination today.

UPDATE #3: The progressive misogyny beginsAnd she’s a witch.  Lefties, they just can’t help themselves.

UPDATE #4: I guess some Hillary supporters are now in the bag for McCain-Palin.  Bad news for the Obamessiah.

UPDATE# 5: Obama/Biden issue a new first impression and Obama throws his campaign staff under the bus.
