After receiving excellent reviews for her first feature film in Hustlers, Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B has confirmed she will look to prolong her acting career as long as possible.
The 26-year-old Yellow Bodak singer made an appearance on Ellen this Thursday, along with T.I. and Chance the Rapper, her co-judges on Netflix’s reality music series Rhythm + Flow, which comes out this October 9.
While Cardi didn’t look very enthusiastic about all the hardships of life on the set, when Ellen asked if she will be acting, she coyly said, ‘Oh yes I am.
The news came as a shock to DeGeneres, 61. Though the comedian praised a lot about Cardi’s work in Hustlers, Cardi had also made feelings known about the movie-making process.
“It was difficult for me to convince myself that I was on set for 16 hours,” Cardi said. “It’s like, ‘Is this what actors and actresses go through?’ I mean it’s tough, really tough ”
“As artists, we do have long days. Like really long days but it’s just filled with excitement. We walk around, we doin’ something,” Cardi said. “[Acting], you like, you have to wait on the trailer until it’s your scene. You have no choice but to do the same thing 20 times.”
Also on Ellen, Cardi also mentioned that cinema isn’t the only place “the check” made her come
She also said she decided to join as a judge on Netflix’s latest reality hip-hop competition show Rhythm + Flow because of how much money she could pocket.
That did not necessarily mean she wouldn’t love the judging gig, which she will be sharing with T.I. and Chance the Rapper (episodes arrive across three Wednesdays starting on Oct. 9).
“I developed a bond with the contestants and with everyone else. I was really emotional on the final day. It was difficult for me to believe it. I felt really really sad,” Cardi said. “I felt bad because I felt guilty for like we kinda crushed a lot of people’s dreams but the labels would have done that anyway.”
