China bans 105 apps from app stores across all operating systems in smartphones. It is a pledge to remove all forms of content regarding prostitution, violence, gambling, and pornography.
China bans 105 apps under three laws
Amidst all the apps banned by China, they also included TripAdvisor. It is a travel app from the United States.
As per the Cyberspace Administration of China, the apps that violate one of the three laws set by them were included. However, they didn’t provide details of the rules.
China’s ban of apps comes after the US court rules had planned to ban TikTok app made by a Chinese company.
Carl Nichols, the US’s district judge, reported that President Donald Trump over-stepped the authority when planning to ban TikTok due to security reasons. He is one of the judges who were in favor of retaining TikTok.
According to Beijing, they have banned apps that were “deemed offensive” in the eyes of the public. However, it is unclear why a travel app like TripAdvisor would get banned.
BBC contacted China to get details about the same but haven’t received a response as yet.
Indeed, there are tensions between China and the US across cyberspace. It is evident due to the chain of actions and reactions from both the countries.
When the US had announced that they were planning to ban TikTok, the Chinese authorities accused them of bullying. They had also said that they would take measures to safeguard the interests of their companies.
Internet is widely regulated by the US as firms like Google, Twitter, and Facebook are blocked in China.
India was the first country to ban Chinese apps, including TikTok. It was also a security measure taken by the government. Moreover, tensions are going on between India and China due to border-related issues as well.
