Things are really taking a weird turn for smartphones and their usage. Recently California court ruled that using Google maps while driving will be considered illegal like texting or calling without the use of hands-free.
Well, this might cause some serious moving restrains as it is practically impossible to visit new places without the help of Google maps. Of course, in the bygone days, we would use manual help like asking people about the route or so But we have come way passed that habit owing to technological advancements.
Google maps have made our life quite easy. Just get in the vehicle, feed in the location and that’s it! The maps will guide you through the roads with absolute ease.

Additionally, Google maps cancel out the roads which are blocked or inaccessible in some way. Now that is something very useful and cannot be achieved by talking to the passersby.
But now, this useful app is being considered as a distraction. Okay. It’s true. We often fail to put absolutely attention on the roads while listening to the map directions.
But if that is termed as a distraction, then there are quite a few such activities that can get one distracted. For instance, eating in the car!
To think about it, a lot of activities that are commonly done in the car can all be accounted for distractions. In that light, one should not be glancing at the handwritten address or directions while driving (which is something we will have to do in case Google maps are banned). Changing the music in the car will also be a distraction then!
The problem came to the surface when a driver was cited for using a wireless phone while driving. The driver claimed that he was using the phone to access the maps and thus the distracted driving law stands moot.
Thus to set the scores right, the law has been amended to include the use of Google maps as well!
A lot of things and businesses might go down with this change. Is the state ready for that? We’ll find out!
