Body Scrub

A body scrub is a type of exfoliant that is used to remove dirt, oils and other impurities from the skin. Using a body scrub is one of the most popular beauty treatments in recent years as it is a quick and easy step to implement into a morning or evening routine.

Body scrubs are greatly beneficial to the skin in many ways as they have the ability to exfoliate rough and flaky skin to remove dead skin cells and restore the smoothness of the skin. A regular body scrub can help to even out the skin and reduce the appearance of cellulite. As the body scrub is gently rubbed against the skin it stimulates blood flow and improves circulation. They help reduce the formation of age spots and fine lines and wrinkles. Regular use of a body scrub can help to improve the overall tone and texture of your skin. Resulting in looking brighter and younger.

Body scrubs are usually made from a blend of salt, sugar and other ingredients. While some people prefer to purchase commercial body scrubs such as those available from Eluxura, it is also very easy to make a scrub at home. Homemade scrubs include everyday ingredients which are inexpensive and easy to find at your local grocery store.

Oils: The next ingredient required is an oil which acts as an emollient to trap moisture, and soften the skin. Choose from olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil or avocado oil.

Optional extras: Here there is the freedom to choose from a variety or of massage oils, or aromatic essential oils depending on the benefits required. For example, lavender oil contains antiseptic properties that can help reduce the appearance of acne breakouts, while rose oil can help minimize scars and reduce redness on the skin. Peppermint oil is also a great choice for a body scrub because it stimulates the pores and helps promote blood circulation. In addition to using essential oils in your homemade body scrub, you can also add things like lemon juice, zest of a lemon, lime or orange, honey, herbs and spices or aloe vera to the ingredients in order to improve the effectiveness.

How to make the scrub

  1. In order to make the scrub, add 1 cup of the exfoliant, half a cup of the oil and as little or as much of the additional ingredients as desired into a large bowl.
