Let’s talk about one of the most important issues when it comes to working with Microsoft Word: Word Repair.

When working on a Word document, people often end up overwriting a document. Sometimes, people accidentally close the document without saving it. Other times, if the PC shuts down unexpectedly, you may end up losing all your work when you restart it. Moreover, you can lose all your data by pressing the Shift key alongside the delete key on the keyboard. Don’t try it!

It is also possible that you want a previous version of your document even after you have saved new changes in the file.

So, let’s address all these unfortunate issues in more detail. In this article, we will guide you on how to recover an old version of your Microsoft Word document. It all comes under Word repair.

Steps for Word Repair

The following are the steps you need to follow for Word repair. Even if you are using an older version of MS Word, the steps will apply.

  1. First, open the Word file that you saved recently and want to restore its previous versions.

  2. Once the file is opened in front of you, you will find the File tab on the top left corner. After clicking the File tab, a list of options will appear. Select Info.

  3. Then, you can select the version you want to open in the Versions list. Click the Restore option and the file will open.

If MS Word says that there are no previous versions of this file, it can point towards two things.

  • First, there may be no previous version of the document. This may happen if your changes were not saved when you worked on the file again.

  • Secondly, this could also mean that no previous version of the document was auto-saved. This could occur if your system shut down unexpectedly and MS Word hadn’t already saved the document.

If this happens, you will not be able to restore the previous version. Therefore, it is a good idea to set your auto-save timings to five minutes. In this way, you will not have to worry about pressing Ctrl + S every few minutes.

Note that this option will only help you save the most recent version of the file. It will not give you two or three versions back from your current one.

In another case, it is possible that your file didn’t get saved due to some reason. Don’t worry; Word repair has a solution for this as well.

You can follow the following steps before you recreate your document from scratch.

  • Go to File and select the Info tab.
  • Under the Info tab, you will see an option for Manage Document.
  • Click that option and recover your unsaved files.
  • Once you open the file, you can save it in your desired place on the PC.

Thanks to Word repair, you will not have to start working on a file all over again.
