JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot signs a $250 million deal with WarnerMedia: Major Details Inside


WarnerMedia declared on Thursday that it had sanctioned a deal with “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” directed by J.J. Abrams along with his wife Katie McGrath for their production company which is Bad Robot, of which they are co-CEOs, to create amazing content.

Variety claimed on Thursday that the deal was for $500 million, but as said by the insiders that it could be responsible for even more if specific performance-related targets are fulfilled. Although “multiple sources” reported The Hollywood Reporter that the deal is estimated to be worth more in the line of $250 million in opposition to the previous report of $500 million estimates.

The search for a home for Bad Robot has been for a long time in making and the set was sought by several other entertainment and tech brands, from Apple to Disney to Netflix. The Hollywood Reporter originally claimed that WarnerMedia had launched Bad Robot, but the official declaration came three months later.

The deal is an agreement for five years that goes through 2024. WarnerMedia claimed in its declaration that Bad Robot will come up and produce theatrical films as well as material for all of its platforms, involving its upcoming streaming platform, HBO Max.

But the big company said that it would honor existing obligations to Paramount Pictures where he is served as a producer on the movies of “Mission: Impossible” and “Star Trek”. Abrams was the one who also directed “The Rise of Skywalker” for Disney, which launches in theatres in December.

Abram has had previous collaborations with Warner Bros. Television Group which involves executive producing HBO’s “Westworld,” Hulu’s “Castle Rock,” and Fox’s “Fringe,” which he created with others.
