
Malcolm Mitchell, the 26-year-old footballer who retired last year has now taken up Poetry to deal with his mental health and claims Poetry has been able to soothe him.
Mitchell was drafted by the New England Patriots during the NFL in 2016 for four years but due to his continuous injuries year after year, Mitchell had to retire last year in March. Mitchell gave an impressive performance in the Super Bowl, he couldn’t play at all in 2017 because of a knee injury. The knee injury was so serious that even after waiting for a year, he eventually had to quit cutting short his NFL career, his dream.
Though the ex-football player has helped his team to win, he calls himself a violent football player. He says, Poetry helps him in the transition from that violence to an artist. He chose Poetry for its soothing effects help Mitchell to treat his mental health. He recently discussed his mental issues with a reporter and said, it’s difficult to suddenly stop doing what you do all the time. It is disturbing, you don’t know what to do all of a sudden.

He also continued asking the reporter, how would he feel if he suddenly had to stop doing this, reporting, journalism. He says, you get stuck and that’s what he is now Stuck! Poetry is helping him deal with it.
Mitchell has already started writing and authored ‘The Magician’s Hat’, both the book and Mitchell are being liked by people. And after finding success in writing, another book of his, a picture book is on its way, but Mitchell has found his passion for poetry and is trying to present it creatively.
