The hip-hop community has been waiting and speculating on Playboi Carti‘s forthcoming sophomore album Whole Lotta Red since August 2018, when the rapper revealed the project’s title in a recording.
For a whole year now, the album has managed to remain both elusive and yet frustratingly accessible, as leak-after-leak has plagued the otherwise tight-lipped Cart.
In a series of leaks, interviews, and performances, Carti has revealed details as fluidly as he negates them, leaving an uncertain catalog of information, and rumors circulating about the project.

To give with as much-needed clarity, here’s a rundown of everything we know so far about Playboi Carti’s Whole Lotta Red.
In an Instagram post on October 15, Playboi Carti seemingly implied Whole Lotta Red‘s imminent release date, with a caption reading “red incoming.” This isn’t the first time Carti has suggested release date.
In a June interview with the Fader, Carti indicated his album could be finished soon, saying “I could be done if I wanted to. I’m just trying to top shit. I might make the hardest song ever tomorrow.”
Then in late July, the rapper was a bit more revealing, but still frustratingly vague when he announced at a show that he’s “trying” to drop the album in 69 days. This puts the release of the project at the end of September.
It seems Carti’s affliction with leaks has no end. Earlier this year a rumored protect Whole Lotta Red surfaced on-line.
The illustrated image features Carti’s distorted face on a red background, with the words “it’s a whole lotta red” plaster on top in a simple Arial font.
However, it seems Carti is changing his tune. While onstage on July 28, Carti told fans the album would have no features, saying “I ain’t gonna lie. It feels like we worked too hard for this moment. So, I do this shit with no features.”
