Revealed: Netflix Film ‘The Council’- Will Smith To Star As Crime Boss Nicky Barnes?


Will Smith who essayed numerous different roles which has had so much variety across his illustrious career will soon be seen fighting himself in Gemini Man. Also, we don’t have to wait long enough before he’ll take on a few rival crime bosses as the head of one of the most notorious mobs in New York City.

Netflix has signed Will Smith to feature in The Council, a movie based on the real-life story of Nicky Barnes, the boss of a crime syndicate that comprised of seven black head who ruled Harlem in the 1970s and 1980s. They are known to bring about a revolution in the drug dealing game by joining hands with the Italian mafia.

Barnes was finally caught in 1978 and over time became a federal informant who gave inputs to take down the Council. Barnes authored a book called Mr. Untouchable in 2007 before he passed away in 2012.

While Smith will essay the role of Barnes in the new Netflix movie, things still remain unclear on who else is featuring in the film since Netflix is yet to reveal anything about the rest of the cast. A release date for The Council has also not been disclosed.

Collider has reported that The Council will set up at Netflix with a script from Peter Landesman, who wrote the Will Smith dramatic vehicle Concussion besides acting as an executive producer.

Smith will be backing the show with his Overbrook Entertainment partner James Lassiter along with Matt Jackson of Jackson Pictures and Jason Essex of Anonymous Nobodies. Further, they will also be joined by executive producers Joanne Lee and David Lee.

Netflix has had so much success trying to replicate real-life stories into the screen. With an interesting plot like this, it will be worth waiting for the show. Also, Will Smith does not always disappoint as far as hyped projects go.
