We have some major surprises for all the gamers out there!
Switch remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening looks quite different from the Game Boy version. However, it still recreates the original’s world view, scenery, and for that matter even opening cutscenes almost one-to-one this time in a shiny new art style.

To show how near it can get, we even took a side-by-side glance at a few ( Don’t worry spoiler-free!) scenes that are in both the new launch remake and the DX version of the previously available original that was on Game Boy Color (a more interesting visual comparison than just different shades of green on the Game Boy).

One reason the gallery is a neat way to compare the two is that it shows the actual resolution difference between each version. We in fact somehow ended up doubled those Game Boy images too, with the original resolution of the handheld being just 160×144, compared to the remake’s 1080p.

In the result of the above-said resolution difference, you might notice some large black bars on either side of the images from Link’s Awakening DX as you play through these sliders – these were actually added by the 3DS, as we recorded it off of the Virtual Console version where it’s still there for purchase. 16:9 resolution can make really a huge difference.

The remake of Zelda indeed is a very good example of how new tech lets the remake do stuff. For instance, zoom into important item moments. Picking up the sword in this, therefore, a bit more momentous when you can actually make out what’s going on (Fret not, the wavy pattern in the sand is still lovingly represented).
