The new Birds of Prey trailer (And the fantastic emancipation of One Harley Quinn) offers fans a first glimpse of the evil Black Mask (Ewan McGregor) wearing his signature mask. The Oscar-nominated actress was almost universally praised for her turn as a DC villain, and Warner Bros. quickly started developing a number of spin-off ideas focused on Robbie’s Harley Quinn. The first to go into production was the film Birds of Prey by Cathy Yan, who sees Harley join forces with the heroes of DC Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead).
The first trailer for the film Birds of Prey was devoted to Harley Quinn, almost to the exclusion of the birds themselves. However, that teased the story of the film, as Harley unites with the heroes in an effort to save Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco) from the evil Roman Sionis aka Black Mask and Victor Zsasz (Chris Messina). With all of the major players contracted for suites, Birds of Prey could potentially launch its own franchise, one that doesn’t necessarily include Harley Quinn in all future installments. Now, the full trailer for the movie Birds of Prey is here, offering even more footage from the next DC movie.
Warner Bros. released the new Birds of Prey trailer (and the fantastic emancipation of One Harley Quinn), which can be viewed below. Although McGregor appeared in the previous trailer for Birds of Prey and other teasers, fans had yet to see the player put on the character’s black mask – so far.
Like the previous teaser, this new trailer for the movie Birds of Prey focuses more on Harley Quinn than on the other members of the titular team. Still, we learn more about their characters and why exactly Harley brings this particular team together: it’s because each of them has pissed off Black Mask in their own way. Cassie Cain stole it, Black Canary “betrayed” him, Huntress “killed his best friend” and police detective Renee is building a case against the crime boss.
As for the black mask of birds of prey, there is still a lot that we do not know about it. We now know that this is the reason why Harley Quinn and the birds of prey team up in the first place, but based on the trailers so far, he seems to be a fairly typical crime boss – albeit explosive. It’s also unclear exactly why Black Mask wants Harley Quinn to be dead. But with Harley Quinn having cast Joker at the start of the film, it’s clear that fans will learn more about her as a character separate from Mr. J – and that includes all the beef she has with Black Mask.
With less than a month before Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) hits theaters, fans will be able to revisit Robbie’s favorite character and meet all of the new DC characters that Yan’s film presents at DCEU soon enough.
