After years of development, Yacht Club Games announced that the final planned content update for Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove will launch on December 10th.
The long-awaited Shovel Knight: King of Cards and Shovel Knight Showdown are the centerpieces of the update, but a handful of other Shovel Knight products will launch alongside the two new game modes as well.
Yacht Club Games revealed that the physical version of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, the amiibo 3-pack – which includes figures of Plague Knight, Specter Knight, and King Knight – and the Shovel Knight: Gold Edition amiibo will also arrive on December 10th.
PlayStation 4 owners looking forward to the physical version will have to wait a bit longer, however, as Yacht Club Games delayed the PS4 version to early 2020 due to unforeseen manufacturing issues.
King of Cards is a prequel to the original Shovel Knight story that stars King Knight, while Showdown lets players compete head-to-head in one-on-one duels, four-player free-for-alls, and more.
Showdown also includes a story mode. It’s worth noting that Showdown will not be available on the 3DS or Vita versions of Treasure Trove.
King of Cards and Showdown were initially set for an April 2019 release, but Yacht Club Games delayed them back in February so it could bring the games to the good level of highest quality just as we have with previous Shovel Knight games.
This may be the final update to Treasure Trove, but there’s more in store for Shovel Knight in the future. Yacht Club Games announced Shovel Knight Dig earlier this year, a brand-new game about digging your way down through handcrafted levels that will feel different each time you play.
There’s no release date yet for Shovel Knight Dig, with Yacht Club Games saying it has quite ways to go still.
