Early Life

Jeffery Lamar Williams, aka Young Thug, was born on August 16, 1991, in Atlanta, Georgia, the United States.

He was the tenth child of eleven children of his parents based in Sylvan Hills. It was located in a neighborhood of Atlanta.

In his growing years, he was raised in Jonesboro South Projects. He was also friends with other notable rappers from the same neighborhood, like Ludacris, Waka Flocka Flame, and others.

He was also a childhood friend of Peewee Longwau, who was just four doors down from his house.

In sixth grade, Jefferey was expelled from the school for breaking a teacher’s arm. He had to spend four years in a juvenile prison.

Career

The rapper started his career in 2010 with his debut as a guest appearance on TruRoyal’s song She Can Go.

Then, he released the first three installments from his mixtape series I Came From Nothing in 2011 and 2012.

His success led another Atlanta-based famous rapper, Gucci Mane, to sign Young Thug to his label 1017 Brick Squad Records in 2013.

Fourth Mixtape

Young Thug released his fourth mixtape, 1017 Thug, which was appreciated for its originality amongst music critics.

It was also included in top year-end lists in 2013, such as Complex’s The 50 Best Albums of 2013 or Pitchforks Albums of the Year.

Young’s fourth mixtape was also ranked five of 10 Best Mixtapes of 2013 by Rolling Stone and The Guardian.

First Single

In July 2013, Young Thug released his first commercial single, his debut, Stoner. It became popular in a short period.

Several rappers created and released their own remixes of Stoner. These rappers were Jim Jones, Trick-Trick, Wale, Iamsu!, Jadakiss, and others.

Young didn’t like other rappers remixing his single.

In an XXL interview, he commented,

“I think they should be [taken down] if you feel like my song isn’t tough enough to the point where you have to freestyle. I’d rather battle rap. I’m a battle rapper. Don’t think I’m happy you’re doing it because of who you are. I’m ready for war.”

Gaining Popularity

Meanwhile, his song Danny Glover started getting numerous remixes from music celebs like Waka Flocka Flame and Nicki Minaj.

In December 2013, along with Travis Scott, Danny Brown, and Trick Daddy, he performed in Miami at Fool’s Gold Day Off show.

His album ranked at number 96 amongst the best albums of the first half of the 2010s decade in Pitchfork.

The most significant first addition to Young Thug net worth was in January 2014 when Future’s Freebrandz record label offered $8.5 million to sign him.

Young also signed a management deal with Cash Money Records CEO Birdman for a hip-hop collective called Rich Gang in 2014.

From 2015 to 2016, he consecutively launched four mixtapes:

  • Barter 6
  • Slime Season
  • Slime Season 2
  • Slime Season 3

In 2021, he released another album, Punk, which also went on to become a huge success.

Personal Life

In his childhood, someone shot and killed his elder brother in front of their family home.

He joined the #fightpovertagain campaign in December 2016.

Next year, on June 29, he donated all his earnings from a recently successful and sold-out concern to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA).

With four women, Young Thug has six children, of which three are sons and three are daughters.

Young first became a father at the age of 17. He got engaged to Jerrika Karlae in April 2015. She owns a swimwear line, and her mother has managed the late Young Dolph.

Young Thug broke up with Jerrika Karlae in December 2020. A few months later, in 2021, he started to date Mariah the Scientist, a singer based in Atlanta.

Currently, Young Thug is single. He is not dating anyone. Like any other celebrity, he tries to keep his relationships private.

Controversies and legal issues

The members of the Bloods street gang fired at Lil Wayne’s tour bus in April 2015.

When Bus Driver decided to sue labels Cash Money Records, Birdman, and Young Money Records for the mishap, he also involved Young Thug in the lawsuit.

In January 2017, a lawsuit against the rapper was filed because he didn’t show up at a music concert at Sahlen’s Stadium. He signed the contract for $55,000 for the appearance.

He had multiple lawsuits filed against him for the same reason. Another instance was his contract with a Texas production company in April 2016.

Young Thug was also charged, however cleared due to lack of evidence, of battery in April 2017 when he slapped a woman outside a nightclub a few weeks back.

In April 2017, his house in Sandy Springs in, Georgia, was raided, after which he was charged with felony cocaine, marijuana, and gun possessions.

Arrests

Young was also arrested on September 24, 2017, in Brookhaven, Georgia, for multiple drug and firearm possessions. However, he was released on bond a few days later.

All charges against Young except felony marijuana possession were dropped as his lawyers argued that police conducted the raid without a warrant.

Thug was again arrested on May 9, 2022, in Atlanta for some gang-related charges. He was further charged with additional felonies related to possession of illegal substances and firearms.
