DeSmogBlog is giddy with delight at finding a ‘secret’ Heartland Institute document that ‘exposes’ donations to various climate skeptic scientists, blogs or writers:
funding for high-profile individuals who regularly and publicly counter the alarmist AGW message. At the moment, this funding goes primarily to Craig Idso ($11,600 per month), Fred Singer ($5,000 per month, plus expenses), Robert Carter ($1,667 per month), and a number of other individuals, but we will consider expanding it, if funding can be found.”
The DeSmog crew drool over the revelation that the Koch Brothers funded Heartland to the tune of $200,000 in 2011. Every good alarmist knows the Koch Brothers are hippie kryptonite, which is why finding their fingerprints in the climate ‘denial machine’ makes them so happy.
But they shouldn’t be.
What the Heartland documents show is how badly warmists have been beaten by those with a fraction of the resources they’ve enjoyed.
Al Gore spent $300 million advertising the global warming hoax. Greenpeace, the WWF, the Sierra Club, The Natural Resources Defense Council, NASA, NOAA, the UN and nation states have collectively poured billions into climate research, alternative energies and propaganda, supported along the way by most of the broadcast and print media.
Yet they’ve been thwarted by a few honest scientists, a number of blogs and a small pile of cash from Heartland.
Here’s a clue for DeSmog, Joe Romm and other warmists enjoying a little schadenfreude today. It’s not the money that’s beating you, it’s the message.
Your climate fear-mongering backfired. You cried wolf so often the villagers stopped listening. Then Climategate I & II gave the world a peek behind the curtain into the shady practices, petty-feuding and data-manipulation that seems to pass for routine in climate ‘science’.
So enjoy the moment, warmists, because what this episode really demonstrates to the world is how little money was needed to bring the greatest scam in history to its knees. That’s not something I’d think you’d want to advertise, but knock yourselves out. It’s what you do best.

What is apparent that everything connected with the climate wars has to be transparent. And put side by side.
The top 10 sources of warmist and skeptic information: the institutions and specific players on one side, and their donors and amounts on the other.
Any bets who is the Goliath in this battle?
We could even do it by suits: the costs of the suits of the top 10 on each side from the last public engagement, plus the amount they were paid to speak. Pictures of each with the suit price and fees.
Any bets who buys at Saville Row and who buys at TipTop?
I like how Sierra Club was receiving more each year just from Chesapeake Energy, a fossil fuel company, than Heartland’s entire annual budget. Says it all really.
You’ve seen by now that at least one is a fake, per Heartland.
Still nice to have your post copied at Anthony’s…dammit. ;-)
When I saw the headline at Wattsupwiththat, I thought “Oh no, don’t tell me Wattsupwiththat is corrupted.” Then I read what it was about. And I thought “That’s ALL????!!!”
My god. If the warmists go with that, it only shows their hypocrisy: after all their talk about “shills of Big Oil” and blah-blah-blah, all they could find was that Watts received spare change to do a programming job?
They show themselves even more disgustingly double-faced than ever.

These documents show clearly that the constant claims of ‘well funded climate denialism’ were never true. Alarmists simply made them up. This denier funding is peanuts.
As a skeptic myself, I never really knew if deniers were well funded or not. Now I know they never were well funded.
Its the greenies who have been well funded all along.
Thank you Desmogblog. Nice work
