Doom Eternal, initially slated for release on November 22, has been postponed. The news arrives from an official announcement posted to id’s Doom account on Twitter; the eagerly anticipated sequel will instead come on March 20, 2020.

Throughout the development of Doom Eternal, our objective has been to transmit a game that exceeds your tremendous expectations across the board,” the announcement reads.

“To make confident we are delivering the decent experience—for Doom Eternal to survive up to our criteria of speed and polish—we have made the decision to broaden our launch date by some months to March 20, 2020.

We understand that many fans will be disheartened by this delay, but we are completely convinced that the Doom Eternal will definitely transmit a gaming experience that is worth the delay.”

The tweet substantiates that Doom Eternal’s new “Invasion” version will release “shortly after arrival” in the shape of a free update and that the Nintendo Switch edition of the game will arrive eventually after the PlayStation, Xbox One, and PC editions.

The new re-release of Doom 64—for Switch, PS4, Xbox, and PC—has also been postponed to March 20. It will be given as a free pre-order compensation to anyone who buys Doom Eternal prior to the modern March release date.

We are pleased to every Doom Eternal fan for your great commitment and support,” id Software added. “We cannot wait to rip and tear right along with you.”

If you are keeping score, Doom Eternal enlists a high-profile list of games initially promised to launch in 2019. These encompass Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Wasteland 3, and Psychonauts 2. (We are still wondering if Valve will join that list with its continually promised “VR game,” currently slated to blastoff in “2019.”)

Yet no matter what, this game is going to be worth the wait.
